E.K. Blessing Trombone, Made in USA. Date, 1949
This trombone (French: trombone German: posaune) was purchased from Summit High School in Summit, New Jersey in 2012. This trombone is made by a now defunct company, E.K. Blessing. This exact trombone was made in 1949 in the USA.
The origins of the trombone date back to Europe in the 15th century (1400s). It was adapted from the trumpet. You move the slide to change the length of the instrument, thus making different notes. Until approximately 1700 the trombone was called the sackbut. The sackbut is just an earlier name for the trombone. (Encyclopedia Britannica “trombone”, n.d.)
